Todays Parent Online Chat: How to Bully-Proof Your Child April 16-18

Posted: April 15th, 2007 by Michele Borba

I just returned from one of the most amazing speaking tours I’ve ever done - ever. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada asked me to speak in cities across Canada to help parents teach their children ways to stand up to bullies and stop bullying behaviors. The parent response was just plain wonderful.

I need to thank the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada for such forward-thinking. Wow–proactive ways to stop anti-social behaviors in kids. It’s almost “too profound” a notion these days. Ahh! How sad. We’re so darn reactive). We video-taped those sessions and the Boys and Girls Clubs will now be showing my training to club leaders throughout Canada so they can teach the strategies to kids. The Vancouver clubs asked parents to bring their children to the training. While I trained the parents, the leaders trained the kids. Love it! Sears was the sponsor of those events.

I will be sharing many of those bully-proofing strategies in this blog throughout the next few weeks. But here’s another way you can be more active in the process:

The Boys and Girls Clubs also set up a venue with Todays Parent online community so you can write me individual questions about bullying. I will be answering parents’ questions (or as many as possible) for the next three days: April 16, 17, and 18.

So if you have a question about bullying, please join me on their website. Just log in and post the question. I’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible.

Also, please post strategies that worked in your school or with your children to share with other parents and teachers as well.

Let’s help kids learn strategies that will help them be less likely to be victimized and stop bullying behaviors before they become habits.
